Summary:
The host/hostess is responsible for greeting guests warmly and enthusiastically (either in person or by phone), seating and acknowledging departures of guests, scheduling reservations, and managing the flow of guests at the front of the restaurant.
General Responsibilities:
▪Responsible for managing the reservation portal- be able to manage the book to maximize seating and reservations
▪Communicate with the management team regarding guest needs & concerns
▪Communicate with the management team about dining room needs ( menus, seating challenges, large parties, etc)
▪Manage and ensure fair and even distribution of covers amongst the service team
▪Know and understand the strengths of each server and utilize said strengths to manage guest expectations and reservation needs
▪Stay abreast of all goings-on inside the restaurant ( marketing initiatives, special events, VIPs, operating parameters, etc)
▪Train new hires and develop junior hosts in all facets of the front door area, as well as give directions to other hosts to meet the daily needs of our guests
▪Maintain operational standards outlined in the training manual and employee handbook
▪Maintain full situational awareness of the restaurant at all times ( individual server abilities, the status of the kitchen, open tables, anticipates arrivals, special guests, requests & needs, VIP, etc.)
▪Any additional duties and tasks assigned by the management team
Host Responsibilities:
- SMILE! Display a warm and friendly demeanor and posture, delivering a positive first impression of HIVE.
- Creates an exceptional experience at the reception desk and waiting areas.
- Review the reservation list and coordinate with managers to anticipate guest flow, peak times, and requirements associated with special events.
- Obtain station assignments for servers and server assistants from the manager.
- Assist manager in planning reservations and assigning parties to appropriate sections and/or servers.
- Answer the phone in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
- Correctly receive, confirm, and document reservations in the reservation system
- Acknowledge and greet arriving guests; invite departing guests to return.
- Offer to assist guests with coat checks upon arrival and departure as needed.
- Escort guests to the assigned table; present menus with menu tour.
- Enter guest information into OpenTable with pertinent guest notes.
- Control the flow of business with rotation seating, anticipating table turns, and following the reservation and seating plan.
- Reset tables in the dining room and perform other dining room maintenance duties as required
- Accurately quote wait times to guests and correctly maintain the waitlist.
- Communicate with the manager if wait times are running over quoted to guests.
- Maintains, stocks restocks, cleans, and organizes host area.
- Completes opening, side, and closing duties promptly following established standard operating procedures.
- Responds quickly to spills in the dining room to ensure guest and team member safety.
- Safely operates and maintains cleanliness of equipment.
- Completes and passes required training classes and modules – both initial and ongoing.
- Interacts with guests ensuring that food and beverages meet their expectations.
- Be knowledgeable and able to provide basic information to guests concerning any aspects of the restaurant and HIVE Collective.
- Communicates information regarding guest requests, complaints, and/or ideas to management immediately.
- Execute service and hospitality by HIVE B&C standards.
- Continuously be aware of special events, menu changes, and special orders (as necessary)
- Follows sanitation and safety standards.
- Practices proper and safe food handling, storage, receiving, stocking, and rotating procedures.
- Responds appropriately to other assigned duties from the management team.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Maintains company confidentiality.
- Follows all company policies as outlined in the company handbook.

- Qualifications
- Meet state age requirements for the position.
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Professional attire and appearance in keeping with HIVE Bakery & Cafe standards.
- Must have professional communication and social skills appropriate for guest interaction.
- Able to read and understand English and have basic math and computer skills.
- Able to lift and carry trays of food and beverages safely. ▪ Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (bags/boxes) and carry short distances.
- Able to stand and walk during 8-10 hour shift.
- Understand hazards include but are not limited to cuts, burns, slips, trips, and falls.
- Able to work closely with other staff at a fast pace, under pressure, maintaining quality standards, and often in confined areas.
- Able to interact verbally with other employees.
- Able to complete additional tasks assigned by management.
- Able to meet all standards for safe food handling.
- Able to work at approximately 36-inch table/stove and reach in approximately 36 inches. ▪ Able to reach (up to 6 feet overhead), bend, stoop, and wipe.
- Able to understand and implement standard operating procedures.
- Able to be flexible when it comes to scheduling (must be available to work weekends and holidays)
- Have strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

The counter person is responsible for assisting guests through our bakery and grab and go line by inputting food/beverage orders, boxing up pastries, slicing bread, and taking special orders. The counter person also assists the cashier during peak hours.
Responsibilities:
- Interacts with guests by boxing up pastries and taking orders on our POS system.
- Follows Sequence of Service guidelines as outlined in the counter manual.
- Takes orders from guests walking through the bakery line in an efficient manner.
- Slices and bags bread per customer requests.
- Answers the telephone and respond to guest inquiries.
- Assists cashier and other counter employees with tasks at hand.
- Maintains, stocks, restocks, cleans and organizes counter area.

The server is responsible for guiding guests through our menus by answering questions and making recommendations, taking food orders and inputting them into the POS, presenting food and beverages in accordance with our standards, presenting checks and processing payments.
Responsibilities:
- Guides guests through the menu and ordering process, answers any questions and follows menu merchandising procedures by listening, explaining specials, suggesting items, and up-selling.
- Ensures timing of food orders meets standard service times and communicates appropriately if it does not.
- Follows standard operating procedures of taking beverage and food orders and entering them into the POS system.
- Interacts with guests ensuring that food and beverages meet their expectations.
- Maintains, stocks, restocks, cleans and organizes service area.
